Children are beginning school less physically ready than ever before.

Even the simplest of things can trip them up.

Many children are unable to sit still, follow instructions, have mature pencil grips, have developed sufficient eye development for reading, and are clumsy when moving around the room to name but a few.

Of course, there are many reasons for this and it is not for us to lay blame. We just have to adapt and provide teaching programmes that are appropriate and address the changing needs of our children now entering our beginning school classrooms.

When children have poor muscle-control and coordination it hinders their ability in the classroom.

Quite often, these early challenges in the classroom can be mis-diagnosed as behavioural problems, or redressed through formal learning techniques for which children may not be ready.

A child’s poor pencil grip may have less to do with the number of hours she’s held a crayon in her hand, than the number of hours she’s spent on the monkeybars.

MSPMP works to develop children’s physical motor skills that provide the foundations necessary for success in their early school years.

It’s all educational. It’s just not academic.

Movement is a language that children speak fluently. MSPMP gives children experiences by seeing, hearing, touching, making perceptual judgments and reacting through carefully sequenced physical activities.
